American Culinary Federation Certification Evaluator
The American Culinary Federation (ACF) has recognized Chef Jerry Sonnier, faculty program coordinator and Culinary Arts instructor at SOWELA Technical Community College, as a Certification Evaluator. To become a Certification Evaluator, individuals must complete an application, attend training, and participate in multiple exams as an Apprentice Evaluator with a Lead Evaluator who provides instruction, reviews applicant’s scores, and assesses readiness. Finally, the ACF National Office grants approval.
The ACF is the country’s largest professional association for chefs, cooks, culinary educators, and professionals in the food service industry and is dedicated to promoting the culinary profession and furthering its members’ culinary expertise through education, certification, and competitions.
Founded in 1929, the ACF now has more than 25,000 members in over 295 local chapters throughout North America and the Caribbean.
Chef Sonnier is one of only 10 Certification Evaluators statewide. According to Dr. David Shankle, Dean of the School of Business and Applied Technology, “Chef Sonnier has worked tirelessly to create an incredible culinary program at SOWELA. Part of his efforts included benchmarking against other programs in order to meet and, in many cases, exceed American Culinary Federation standards. Chef Sonnier’s training and preparation led to his appointment as a Certification Evaluator.”
SOWELA Technical Community College provides traditional, distance, and lifelong learning experiences and awards associate degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates that empower learners in transfer, career and technical education to excel as globally competitive citizens. The College has been educating the region’s workforce for more than 75 years.
