Planning Ahead Should Include Your Clothes Too!
By Tori Hebert
When you are trying to get everyone in the family ready to evacuate for a storm, packing your clothes is probably the last item on your to-do list. You may not even care what you pack as long as you have something in your bag. Many people remember the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and know how the acts of Mother Nature can turn a life upside down. That is one reason that Certified Image Consultant, Julie Branden suggests taking some time to think about what goes in your suitcase. Julie says, “You always want to have something comfortable to wear for long car rides; and you can never go wrong with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. But, you never know where you will end up, or how long you will be there. With that in mind, I always recommend bringing something to wear to an interview.”
For the ladies, you can pack a pencil or A-line skirt, white blouse, blazer, and basic pumps. For women who prefer dresses, Julie recommends designers Maggy London and Calvin Klein for wrap styles that fit every body type. For men, dress pants, a button up shirt, and a tie can do the trick.
Julie also recommends bringing workout clothes to help you stay on track with your fitness goals. Taking care of yourself includes having time devoted to you. Whether it is through exercise or meditation, remember that a hurricane does not have to stop your life completely!
Take some time to look in your closet and identify what clothing you would take during a storm. Make a list of your choices and keep it with your other emergency planning documents. When it’s time to evacuate, you’ll already know what is going with you. Plan now and you’ll be one step ahead later!
